Coat

Below is a very general description of the Labradoodle coat. Visit the ALA Coat page for more detailed information.

General

  • non-shedding and easily maintained
  • any length is acceptable but preferable no longer than 4 inches
  • should be even over the entire body
  • can be straight, wavy or forming spirals
  • should not be too thick or dense, nor should it be fluffy or fuzzy
  • should be a single coat without any undercoat
  • maybe fleece or wool in texture
  • hair coat is not desirable

Fleece

  • should be soft like an Angora goat
  • may be straight, wavy or have soft spiralling curls
  • it is an easy to manage textured coat

Wool

  • like a lamb’s wool
  • look like loose spiralling wool opening up easily to the skin
  • should not be thick and dense or tightly curled
